Happy October Eve!

Good day to you, Dearest Reader. I hope that this entry finds you with a smile on your face 😊

Would you care to take a walk down memory lane with me? I am feeling a tad bit nostalgic today.

To us, who have lived and worked in Salem, MA, this day, September 30th, is one that is similar to us as taking a deep breath before we dive deeply underwater for a while… or for the entire month of October. Tourists begin flooding our (beautiful and quiet) town, exploring it and treating it like it’s Disney World.

  • News flash: Salem is not an amusement park!

… But as I sit, I am thinking about all of the memories that I had about this day, it brings back so many laughs and smiles. What a magickal day it is!

So, pull up a chair and brew yourself a cup of tea or coffee and allow me to tell you a tale about the time when I worked at a Witchcraft shoppe in Salem, MA as a (Witch) shoppe girl…

I always worked on September 30th. I would wake up earlier on this particular day to avoid the tourists. I wanted to make sure that I would be able to get my take-out breakfast special at the Gulu-Gulu café: the vegetarian breakfast sandwich on a spinach bagel (if you are curious, the sandwich consisted of eggs, cheddar cheese, peppers and onions) and a PSL with 6 shots of expresso. Don’t judge me too harshly over there, Dear Reader! I would work from open to close on this day… and would stay way past close to make sure that the shoppe was perfect for October 1st.

Once I scarfed down my breakfast, it was off to work I went. I’d open the shoppe and make sure that it was up and running. In the shoppe, we had an Ancestral Altar that I’d always make sure got some ‘extra’ love. As a Medium who is connected to Spirit, I took care of the Spirits and would make sure to bring them tokens of affection, especially during the month of October.

My co-workers were my second family and oh, how I loved them all. We all worked together so well and we were the true testimony of what team work meant. Each of us had our strengths and roles that we executed with perfection and precision. The shoppe was run like a ship– we all knew our roles and knew how to work together to survive the flood of crowds that would be coming in. And lemme tell you, we rocked every single day, especially in October🤘🏻

Assisting the customers and clients that walked into the shoppe were a joy and pleasure. I loved being able to help each of them with their troubles: whether it was love related matters, re-connecting with their psychic natures or finding a money spell to help them bring more abundance into their lives. I loved talking to people from different backgrounds. As a Witch, most importantly, it was my responsibility to help people. Being able to teach and advise was (and is) something that I took (and still take) a significant joy in. It’s my passion, my first love.

I was notorious for singing and dancing around the shoppe. The energy of the people were intoxicating to me and I loved dancing with that energy. It was my way of heightening it, playing with it and keeping the energies moving from within.

  • A favorite memory of mine is when it started to lightly rain and the shoppe was getting a wee bit tired. It was about 2o minutes until closing time. I remember the song “Voodoo” by Godsmack came on and I was dancing within the shoppe. Several people who saw me dancing across the street at Gulu-Gulu were curious about what I was doing. They paid their tab to come dance, sing and shop with me. It was magickally fantastic! 🤣

When it came time to close up the shoppe for the evening, that’s when our work began– my co-workers and I had to re-set the entire store. Surprisingly, that was my favorite part! We’d restocked all the candles, incense, tarot decks, books, herbs and any other magickal item that needed to be put out. The store was swept thoroughly, dusted heavily and mopped well. I would always wipe down the psychic’s tables and chairs with my own Florida water recipe as a way to clear way that energy and keep it fresh for the next batch of client’s that would be occupying those seats. Every item: pendulum, statuary, jewelry, wand and/or athame was put back out on the counters and the display’s as well. When we were finished cleaning, the shoppe had a beautiful golden glow. It was magick.

I had a little ritual that I did before the alarm would be set for the night. I would walk around the shop, double and triple checking to make sure that everything was perfect and in its place. I would make sure that every spot was cleaned and organized. Once it was, I would say ‘Goodnight’ to the Ancestral Altar with my partings until tomorrow. Alarm would be set and off we’d go, I’d always blew a kiss behind me as I left. The door would close and be locked. Off into the night we’d go– saying our goodnight’s to each other and “See you tomorrow.”

I remember walking home thinking that I had the best job in the world. And years later, I can sit here with an honest heart saying that it was. It truly was.

I am wishing all of my Salem loved ones an incredible season! I will be joining you all next year, I hope! 🤞🏻💚
